Anonymous? Curious About What You Think
Indulge me.
I know some people try to guess who might be writing certain anonymous blogs. Personally, I don’t care too much.
But help me understand. In my opinion, often if you’re anonymous, your credibility isn’t necessary high. After all, when anonymous is more credible than your own name, that doesn’t say too much for you. It’s even less credible when you don’t allow anonymous comments to your posts, even though your blog is anonymous. No tit for tat. Then again, I understand for employment reasons some might want to post anonymously.
What if the blog is run by someone who has been run out of the Capitol for sleazy tactics or a lack of potential future ex-wives? Is he still credible? Or bitter? What if someone is paid to say something, but they don't disclose it? Credible? Or should I care?
Drive-by anonymous political attacks are easy to post, but are they credible?
What do you think about anonymous blogs? This isn't a knock to all anonymous blogs. I enjoy some quite a bit. But I am curious. Please share your thoughts. Anonymously if you must.

In the case of "the wisconion" blog, the humor just wouldn't be the same if it were not anonymous. Besides, the facts coming from Max Power are just so hard-hitting that they need no identification for validation.
It really depends on the blog but overall I feel you have to stand by what you write and let the chips fall where they may. If you're too afraid of the consequences to promote your beliefs with your name then why should anyone else believe them?
I don't post anonymously on my blog. You can always look up my profile by clicking on my name.
I do allow anonymous comments on my blog, but I really can't stand it when someone rants at me and then posts anonymously. If you want to yell, at least have the decency to include your name -- even if it is just your first name.
When it comes to others' blogs, my biggest pet peeve is moderated comments. I moderate on only one of my blogs, but that is because I want to be sure that anything posted is childsafe. I think moderating means that you don't want someone who knows more than you to post a different opinion.
I don't blog anonymously (not that I've been doing much blogging at all recently) and I think in most cases it does damage your credibility. I do give humor and whistle-blowing blogs a pass, though.
Regarding what Julie says about moderated comments: I agree, for the most part. I don't moderate comments, and I generally don't delete them unless they're clearly spam. I've let some really ugly things stand as a result -- but I never promised a "family blog."
Sometimes it's just more fun to remain anonymous. Seriously, I am guessing that most anonymous bloggers are just regular people whom no one would know anyway, even if there was a name attached. Some people might prefer to express their thoughts without the notoriety that could come with giving up anonymity.
I have to say, I'm skeptical of anonymous blogs as well, but when I see Rep. Pocan get this testy and personal over the slightest tweak, I have to think he'd be just as vindictive as anyone else in the capitol if he had the clout. So I think I had better stay anonymous.
It would appear that the pillar of good government who runs this blog can dish it out, but just can't take it.
I have no problems with anonymous blogs. I figure they have a reason for their anonymity.
